Beavers have been stewarding the fresh water-ways across the top half of our planet for millions of years. Jakob will discuss beavers, what they do and why they do it, and how we can both coexist and partner with them to build ecological wealth.

Jakob Shockey
Project Beaver
Jakob is a human, father and husband. He spends much of his time assisting humans to coexist with beavers where they have conflicting ideas about habitat. A wildlife biologist and published researcher, Jakob has been working in Oregon’s creeks and wetlands for over a decade. He is the founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit Project Beaver. The foremost authority in mitigating beaver conflicts with human infrastructure in Oregon through his company Beaver State Wildlife Solutions, he is the primary author on the Best Management Practices for Pond Levelers and Culvert Protection Systems. He also sings to himself, loves flying kites, and regularly forgets how to spell allochthonous.
