City floodplain administrators talk about the NMFS BiOp, FEMAs draft guidance, and their City's approach
In 2020, researchers in Washington State discovered and identified 6PPD-quinone, which comes from tire wear particles, as the stormwater chemical responsible for the mortality of coho salmon observed in urban streams. From local water quality data to adult salmon spawning surveys, the impacts of 6PPD-quinone in Oregon are known, but they are not yet well defined. With participation from local jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, local watershed councils, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and Riverkeepers organizations, a new working group seeks to define the extent of the problem, understand our roles and responsibilities, and find solutions to reduce 6PPD-quinone in our rivers and streams. Learn the latest on what is happening to understand and address 6PPD-quinone in Oregon.
